Hybrid Seminar in Porto

STEP – Strategies for Transformative Education for Art in Public Spaces
April 8–10, 2026

The hybrid seminar in Porto is a first for the European STEP project—Strategies for Transformative Education for Art in Public Spaces. Hybrid seminars are an educational format that combines faculty mobility with online participation. The Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto (Portugal) welcomes David Limaverde as a visiting professor from Fontys Academy of the Arts (Netherlands). This seminar offers students theoretical insights and collective feedback on their works in progress.

April 8 Schedule

Mandatory for 4th-year DNSEP ESP students
Open to 5th-year ESP students

MADEP students will be present in Porto. All other students will participate online.

3:00 PM → Lecture with David Limaverde

Through a sharing of his practice, David Limaverde offers a reflection on authorship and co-authorship in participatory and context-sensitive artistic works, addressing issues of appropriation, détournement, locality, and positioning. The lecture examines how ethics can be put to the test in participatory practices.

3:30 PM → Q&A (question-and-answer session)

4:00 PM → Hybrid group critique
Student presentations & peer feedback

Students present a work-in-progress project, preferably a group project—5 presentations in total—15 minutes each. Each presentation is followed by a 15-minute collective peer discussion, including both online and in-person participants. The session will be moderated by David Limaverde and Gabriela V. Pinheiro.

David Limaverde, born in Brazil, lives and works in Amsterdam. An artist, teacher, researcher, and tutor, he teaches in the Master’s program in Performing Public Space at the Fontys Academy of the Arts (NL). His work focuses on artistic research, critical pedagogy, and participatory practices, with a particular interest in public space, collaboration, and socially engaged art. He holds a PhD in Arts and Education from the University of Barcelona.
