STEP - Strategies for Transformative Education in Public Art Spaces

In 2025, ÉSADHAR, a recipient of the Cooperation Partnerships in Higher Education program, launched the European project STEP – Strategies for Transformative Education for Art in Public Spaces, supported by Erasmus+. This educational innovation and research project, spanning three years (2026–2028), aims to renew educational practices through interdisciplinary, collaborative, and transnational approaches.

This international cooperation program brings together five European higher education institutions in art and design: the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Brussels – ArBA-ESA (Belgium), the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto – FBAUP (Portugal), the Fontys Academy of the Arts (Netherlands), and the Kunstuniversität Linz (Austria), coordinated by ésadhar – École Supérieure d’Art et Design Le Havre-Rouen (France).

Launch of the European STEP project,
initiated by ÉSADHAR,
at ArBA-ESA

To mark the launch of the STEP project—Strategies for Transformative Education for Art in Public Spaces—ArBA-EsA (Belgium) organized a public conference in the form of an open discussion on March 5.
The two-day launch brought together the STEP team to collectively explore public spaces and places as a medium for creation, the social, political, and ecological challenges of site-specific practices, and ways of teaching and transmitting knowledge in, with, and through the city.
