Our commitments

Combating discrimination
and harassment

At the Le Havre-Rouen School of Art and Design, respect for individuals is a fundamental principle.

Ésadhar is committed to building a study and work environment that respects the well-being of all and is based on the values of equality, parity, and diversity. These fundamental principles translate into the fight against exclusion and violence in all its forms, particularly with regard to sexual orientation, gender identity, and people with disabilities. ésadhar has set up an information, awareness, mobilization, and training program for all students and staff at the institution to effectively combat discrimination.

ésadhar is a signatory to the ANdÉA charter against discrimination.

Change of first name and recognition of first name

In 2019, the Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR) implemented initiatives to combat anti-LGBT hatred and discrimination. Students can now change their first name on various documents, such as their student card, certificate of enrollment, email address, and transcripts, without having to change their civil status at the town hall. For more information on how to do this, please contact the academic department.

Eco-friendly establishment

The ESADHAR establishment project is fully in line with the territorial dynamics of the Seine Valley: an industrial, economic, and tourist area of national and international importance. The Seine River forces us to renew our perspectives and question anthropocentric attitudes. The climate dimension encourages us to break down barriers in favor of a global approach that opens up a new, diplomatic, and committed path toward the necessity of coexistence.

Called upon to train future creators and designers, higher education institutions in art and design are committed, through their teaching, research, practices, partnerships, and daily operations, to changing practices, from innovation through art and design to improving everyday life and environments. For Ésadhar, this means establishing a fruitful dialogue between a region and a young generation of artists and designers and offering open and innovative teaching methods.

Socially engaged artistic practices

A research residency that develops close ties with the region and local stakeholders. Objective: a master’s degree program in September 2026.

A new training program

Since September 2024, a new master’s degree program in Le Havre has focused on public environments and situations.

Inform and train

  • Every year, students are made aware of waste sorting and eco-friendly practices.
  • In-depth training for the institution’s staff
  • In October 2024, a workshop with the federation of recycling centers.
  • Clear, positive, and motivational signage

Initiate a genuine culture of recycling and reuse with the recycling centers

The recycling centers on both campuses are autonomous, cooperative spaces dedicated to the exchange of reusable materials. Created on the initiative of students, they are self-managed. Teams are formed at the beginning of each year.

Participate in networking

ésadhar collaborates with:

  • Le Hangar Zéro, a citizen-led laboratory for ecological transition
  • PERMAC is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote reuse in construction. Its role is to raise awareness and train building professionals in this emerging practice, identify local resources, facilitate access to them, and support the process.
  • Grand Chantier: A place dedicated to experimentation, production, and the transmission of reuse and repurposing practices in construction

Managing buildings

Increased attention and constant dialogue with the City of Le Havre and the Rouen Metropolis to reduce and optimize energy consumption (waterproofing work, boiler maintenance, presence detectors, etc.).

The Shared Garden

Through activities such as gardening, which promote social values, more theoretical and artistic reflections on the future of life in the city, and the collective actions they inspire, the Shared Garden aims to involve all school users. The Shared Garden is a space co-managed by students and school staff.

Eating better

Spaces for living and socializing on both campuses. BDE students offer meals cooked with local products.
