5TH YEAR ART ROUEN
5TH YEAR ART ROUEN
The fifth year is that of the preparation of the DNSEP, option Art (National Higher Diploma in Visual Expression, conferring the master’s degree), year in which the students’ activities are concentrated on the finalisation and preparation of their personal creative project. The critical monitoring of the evolution of each student’s study programme by the teachers through individual meetings is crucial. At this moment, the sessions of «contextualisation» are of critical scale and importance for the students’ presentation to the diploma; a diploma which is preceded by the defence of the diploma thesis.
Under the Cluster “Research Methodology”, the graduate students are invited to participate in activities of the various research groups of ESADHaR RESEARCH. This research « on art » and « through art » takes different forms (documentary research, interviews, personal production…) and allows a distancing of the students regarding their personal approach just as it accompanies and enriches.
PASSING THE DNSEP
The DNSEP is taking place at both sites of ESADHaR. It consists of the defence of the thesis (20 minutes) and the presentation of the visual work (40 minutes).
The jury of the DNSEP consists of five members: A school representative chosen from the teachers, who sits on the jury of the defence of the thesis and four qualified individuals chosen from the area of activity. The jury is appointed by the director of the school. The chairman is chosen from qualified individuals.
The jury of defence of the thesis consists of one of the school representatives and one of the three qualified individuals. It is chaired by a professor. The defence of the thesis takes place during semester 10. After the defence, the defence jury will issue a written report that is communicated to the other members of the jury. After the presentation exam of the visual work, the jury decides on the awarding of the DNSEP taking into account the report issued by the jury of defence of the thesis. It delivers the credits corresponding to the visual work (25 credits) and the thesis (5 credits).
Candidates cannot take the exams of the DNSEP more than twice.
THE EVALUATION CRITERIA OF THE DNSEP
The candidates of the DNSEP exams are graded on four criteria:
formal and critical presentation of the work
origin and evolution of the project
cultural inscription of the work (relevance of references and diversity of knowledge)
quality of the work completed
Each of these criteria is graded out of five. An average of ten is required for graduation. A distinction may be awarded from a grade above fourteen. Congratulations from the jury are given to candidates whose grade reaches or exceeds sixteen.
